Mochi Learning (mochilearning.com) is a web-based Mandarin Chinese learning platform designed for children ages 8–11. This privacy policy is written for parents and guardians. If you have any questions, please contact us at mochi.learning2026@gmail.com.
2. Information We Collect
Information provided at signup:
- Child's first name
- Child's age
- Parent or guardian email address
- Self-assessed speaking, writing, and vocabulary skill levels
Information generated through use:
- Lesson and quiz scores
- Storybook watch history and reading progress
- Audio recordings (only when the child chooses to use the voice discovery feature)
- Session cookies (to keep the child logged in during their visit)
Information we do NOT collect:
- Last name, school name, or physical address
- Social media accounts
- Location or GPS data
- Advertising identifiers or tracking pixels
3. How We Use This Information
- Personalize learning content to match the child's skill level
- Track progress and provide quiz summaries to parents
- Generate age-appropriate AI-powered stories and illustrations
- Improve the learning experience over time
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following services to power the learning experience:
- Anthropic (Claude API) — Generates story scripts and conducts the onboarding assessment chat. The child's first name and age may be sent to personalize the experience. Anthropic does not store this data beyond processing the request.
- OpenAI (DALL-E 3) — Generates storybook illustrations. Only scene descriptions are sent; no personal information about the child is included.
- Microsoft Edge TTS — Generates audio narration of Chinese text. Only lesson and story text is sent.
- Google Sheets — Signup and login events are logged so we can track usage. Contains the child's name, age, and parent email.
We do not share data with advertisers or sell personal information to any third party.
5. Data Storage and Security
- All data is stored in a database on our secured server
- Audio recordings are stored on our server filesystem
- We use session cookies only (no tracking or advertising cookies)
- We do not sell or rent personal information
6. Your Rights as a Parent (COPPA)
Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), as a parent or guardian you have the right to:
- Review the personal information we have collected from your child
- Request deletion of your child's account and all associated data
- Refuse further collection of your child's information
- Withdraw consent at any time

7. Data Retention
- Account data is kept for as long as the account remains active
- Parents may request deletion of all data at any time
- Audio recordings can be deleted on request
- If an account is inactive for 12 months, we may delete the data automatically
8. Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this policy, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we will notify the parent email address on file.
